Are PVC shutters actually waterproof, or just water resistant?
Genuinely waterproof. The frame, stiles and louvres are solid PVC with no timber or MDF core anywhere in the panel, so there is nothing inside for water to reach. That is the difference between a PVC shutter and a painted timber shutter sold as moisture resistant, where the protection is only as good as the coating on the surface.
Will PVC shutters go yellow over time?
Not the ones we fit. Quality PVC shutters are UV-stabilised through the material rather than coated on the surface, which is what stops the yellowing you see on cheap plastic blinds after a couple of Queensland summers. It is worth asking any supplier this question specifically, because it is where the cheap product gives itself away.
Do PVC shutters look cheap next to timber?
In a white painted finish, at normal viewing distance, most people cannot tell them apart. Up close, timber has a depth to the finish that PVC does not quite match, which is exactly why we put timber in living rooms and PVC in bathrooms rather than one product everywhere.
Can PVC shutters be used on large windows?
Up to a point. PVC is less stiff than timber, so wider and taller panels get a concealed aluminium insert through the stiles to keep them flat. Past a certain span you are better off with a different product, and we will tell you where that line is at the measure rather than selling you a panel that will bow.
Can I paint PVC shutters a different colour?
We would not recommend it. The colour is through the material and the surface is designed not to hold coatings, so paint tends to peel. Choose from the colour range instead - and tell us at the measure if you need something specific, so we can show you what is actually achievable.
Are PVC shutters good for mould-prone bathrooms?
Yes. The surfaces are non-porous and sealed with no grain and no fabric, so there is nothing for mould to establish in, and anything on the surface wipes straight off. They will not fix an underlying ventilation problem, but they will not contribute to one either.
Do they work in a poolside window?
They do, and chlorine and splash are no problem. If the opening is genuinely outdoors and gets direct weather and sun rather than just moisture, we would usually specify powder-coated aluminium instead, because it handles wide spans and direct weather better.
How long from measure to installation?
Typically four to six weeks, the same as the rest of the range. Panels are made to your measurements, so there is a manufacturing window. We confirm the install date at measure-up and the same team that measured does the fit.
What is covered by the warranty?
Product and workmanship are both covered, in writing, on your quote before you commit. Panel adjustments such as hinge tightening and louvre tension tweaks are included.
